Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the time of year, your snowdrops are sent as dormant bulbs, newly sprouting bulbs, in flower, or lifted 'in the green'. We wash the compost from the bulbs before posting to keep them safe and the postage affordable, then wrap them in damp tissue and film and box them carefully. Greetings cards and fridge magnets are sent with free UK P&P; postage on plants is calculated at checkout. Please pot up or plant out your snowdrops as soon as they arrive.

Once your order has been dispatched, we will send a confirmation email containing your tracking number and a link to follow your parcel's progress with the courier. You can also view your order status at any time by logging into your account on snowdrops.me and visiting the 'My Orders' section. If you checked out as a guest, simply use the tracking link in your dispatch email, and please allow up to 24 hours for the tracking information to update after dispatch.

You can return most items within 30 days of receiving your order for a full refund, provided they are unused and in their original condition and packaging. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, you also have the right to cancel within 14 days of delivery. To start a return, contact our support team at [email protected] and we will guide you through the process. Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will process your refund to your original payment method, usually within 5 to 10 working days. Faulty or incorrect items will be refunded in full, including any delivery costs.

We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. For added convenience and security, you can also pay using popular digital wallets such as PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. All payments are processed through secure, encrypted checkout so your details are always protected. We never store your full card information on our systems.

At present, Snowdrops delivers within Scotland, England and Wales. We are currently unable to deliver to Northern Ireland or anywhere internationally. We are always reviewing our delivery options (this may change in 2027), so please check back or sign up to our newsletter for any future updates.

If you need to amend or cancel your order, please contact us as quickly as possible at [email protected] with your order number. We process orders quickly, so we can only make changes or cancel before your order has been dispatched. If your order has already been dispatched, you are still covered by your 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, and you can simply return the item to us once it arrives for a full refund.

Every snowdrop we offer is propagated from our own collection of Galanthus here at Bruckhills Croft in Aberdeenshire, nearly 600 varieties, awarded National Plant Collection status by Plant Heritage in 2021. Growing and propagating the plants ourselves means we can offer healthy, true-to-name snowdrops and share first-hand advice on growing them.

As soon as they arrive. We supply snowdrops in the green in late winter and spring, and as dormant bulbs in summer. Open the packaging straight away, keep the plants somewhere cool, and get them into the ground or a pot within a few days so the roots never dry out.

In the green means the plant is lifted in leaf, just after flowering, and planted at the same depth it was growing, which you can see where the stem turns green. Dormant bulbs are lifted in July with no foliage and planted so the top of the bulb sits one to two bulb depths below the surface. We supply both.

Most snowdrops are happiest in dappled shade at the edge of deciduous trees and shrubs, open to winter sun but shaded in summer. Many, including alpinus, platyphyllus and peshmenii, thrive in full sun, but none like deep shade. Give them free draining soil with plenty of leaf mould and grit.

Plant a dormant bulb so its tip sits roughly one to two times the bulb's own height below the surface, in well prepared soil or a plunged pond basket. Plants in the green go back at exactly the depth they were growing before. Label everything well, snowdrops vanish completely in summer.

Only lightly. Here at Bruckhills Croft we sprinkle bonemeal around the clumps as the season begins, a slow release feed that builds the bulbs for next year, and rely on the annual mulch of fallen leaves and home made compost. On poor soil a diluted seaweed or tomato feed after flowering helps.

Every few years, in July when the bulbs are fully dormant. Congested clumps stop flowering and can rot. We never lift in the green because bruised foliage attracts narcissus fly and swift moth by scent. Tip the clump out, keep only healthy bulbs, replant about a quarter of them with fresh compost and pot up the rest.

Slugs and snails do little harm. The real threats are narcissus fly and swift moth, whose larvae eat the bulb, so avoid disturbing foliage in the growing season and use fleece or mesh over precious plants, and eelworm, which is why you should only buy from a reputable nursery. Grey mould, fire and leaf scorch are fungal and need affected plants removed and better airflow.

Our collection of Galanthus at Bruckhills Croft in Aberdeenshire gained National Collection status in 2021 and now holds around 600 varieties, every one labelled, mapped and propagated so rare snowdrops are kept safe and shared with other growers.
